Patriot Assistance Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that trains rescued dogs as service dogs for Veterans living with PTSD, TBIs and more. The dogs are provided to qualifying Veterans at no charge to the Veteran.
Help us mark our territory!
With growth comes new challenges. The number of new Veterans who contact us looking for help continues to increase. In addition, we provide ongoing training to our current teams. We are also prepared to provide successor dogs to our Veterans who are ready to retire their current service dog.
We currently employ two full-time trainers, one part-time office assistant/bookkeeper, and one part time receptionist. We would like to employ a third trainer and an office administrator. Our dogs and trainers share a building with the Marshmallow Animal Shelter and Lucky Dog Boarding & Training Center and we have simply outgrown our current space. We require additional kennel and training space for our dogs, classroom space for our Veterans, and room for our future staff.
We have purchased a 7acre property near Detroit Lakes that provides ample administrative and classroom space in the existing building, as well as rooms being used a residence hall for those Veterans staying with us during class week. Our Veterans spend one week in Detroit Lakes attending classes that introduce them to their service dogs and teach them about service dog handling and the American with Disabilities Act rights. On site, free of charge, lodging provides our Veterans and their new service dogs the additional benefit of spending the week with other Veterans who are struggling with similar issues.
On this property, we will construct a kennel building that would provide space to care for and train our dogs.
